"Or when we were in the canyon and huge trout started rising everywhere?"

Washington's Recreation Region

Within a stone's throw of Suncadia lies a tempting array of activities and recreational opportunities: Downhill ski resorts; whitewater rafting; the unsurpassed wilderness of the Alpine Lakes Region in the Cascade Mountains; the Yakima River, Washington's only blue-ribbon trout stream... Or, if you're in the mood for something more civilized, there's Washington's rapidly growing Wine Country, world-class concerts at The Gorge Amphitheater and countless small, historic mining and agricultural towns to explore like Roslyn, Cle Elum, and Ellensburg. It all adds up to daytrips and excursions to fill a lifetime with fun and terrific memories.

Roslyn

The historic town of Roslyn, Washington is Suncadia's nearest neighbor. Once the largest coal mining town in Washington state, Roslyn earned national attention as the location for the quirky TV series Northern Exposure.

From Roslyn's landmark tavern known as The Brick, to its Sunday Farmer's Market, to the Roslyn Theatre where "well-behaved" dogs are welcome, Roslyn's eclectic charm and easy-going ways are a throwback to a bygone era.

Cle Elum

Cle Elum translates as "swift water" in the Native American language of its earliest inhabitants. Like Roslyn, Cle Elum has a rich mining history, but the two communities are distinctly different. Before the trans-continental railroad was extended to Seattle, Cle Elum was the terminus for east-west trains. Cle Elum is now home to many fine restaurants and pubs, as well as conveniences like banks and supermarkets.

Alpine Lakes Region

The Alpine Lakes Region encompasses hundreds of pristine, glacier-fed streams and lakes surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Hiking trails entice beginning and advanced hikers alike. Among the most accessible and breathtaking is Cooper Lake-an ideal spot for beginning hikers and families for a summer picnic or a late afternoon paddle. Just past Roslyn and the small town of Ronald, on Salmon la Sac Road, turn right just past the Cle Elum River bridge. The Cooper Lake trailhead is ahead 1/2 mile.

Leavenworth

An hour from Suncadia is the picturesque Bavarian village of Leavenworth. The sight of locals in lederhosen, the sounds of polka, and the deliciously authentic German cuisine make Leavenworth a must-see day trip. Festivals take place year-round, from live outdoor entertainment on summer weekends to one of the best Oktoberfest celebrations anywhere. An autumnal trip to Leavenworth rewards visitors with amazingly, colorful fall foliage.

The Gorge

The Gorge Amphitheater, just a little over an hour's drive east of Suncadia, features sweeping views of the Columbia River Gorge and is consistently voted America's top outdoor venue. The amphitheater hosts some of the biggest names in music and offers a stunning background of vast, barren foothills with unforgettable sunsets. You can also enjoy water sport activities such as windsailing, jet skiing, and waterskiing along the Columbia River.

Snoqualmie Pass Skiing

Just 30 miles west of Suncadia, Snoqualmie Pass offers a broad variety of outdoor activities. In winter, The Pass is an interconnected playground of ski slopes, snowboard parks, and cross-country trails. Summer brings out mountain bikers and hikers seeking challenging terrain and spectacular views of the Cascade Range.
